State and federal governments have enacted legislation to further protect people from the risks of lead in drinking water. All Community Water Systems (CWSs) and Non-transient Non-community Water Systems (NTNCWSs) must respond to Federal Regulations, including the Lead & Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) and the Lead & Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI). However, lawmakers in some states, such as California, Illinois, and New Jersey, have enacted laws above and beyond the federal law.
